Early Balinese Busts and Figures

Until the end (ca. 1945) of the Dutch colonial period, before the beginning of the new tourist era, Bali produced its finest wood carvings. The anatomical quality of the carvings and the wood chosen were high. A classical subject and favorite collector's item was the image of a topless Balinese girl with ceremonial head ornaments.
